Room 307 News
We made it through ISTEP with flying colors. I just wanted to thank you all for packing healthy snacks on those testing days. The students were so thrilled to enjoy snack after the long tests. They also loved reading the letters everyday for an extra boost.
IREAD practice at home: I would suggest that you use this website: http://msktodd.weebly.com/iread-3--istep-practice.html (students know how to get to this)
I have been using this in the classroom to prepare them for IREAD. Some of them will tell you the student's percent correct. It's also great because it has the math section too, which is for the ISTEP prep. The language arts section is great!

Content Review:
Reading: We have been working on a lot this quarter. We continued practicing answering a question in writing using evidence from the text. We also learned about text features in non-fiction writing, text structure and main idea. Lastly, we reviewed vocabulary/word analysis skills (synonyms/antonyms, context clues, sounds, prefixes/suffixes, homophones) that will be on the IREAD test. We are currently using fables and poems to practice comprehension.
Writing: Your child has chosen a topic on which they would like to write an informational piece. We researched these topics using library books and articles. They chose 3 "big ideas" for their topic and wrote their facts on notecards. We are currently working on putting our details in order and adding it to our outline. They are adding topic sentences and then an introduction.
Science: We are working to answer the question: How do scientists successfully complete their job? We just finished completing experiments using the scientific method to gain information about how to be a scientist. Look for that work to come home shortly!
