News from Room 307
Hello parents! We are now three weeks into third grade and things could not be going better! We have started learning routines and procedures for our Literacy Tasks and Guided Math rotations.
We made it through our first round of NWEA! This test will take place three times a year. There is a reading/language arts portion and a math portion. This is a growth-based assessment that will assist us in planning for your child and will also be a way to track their progress. The students did a great job "showing what they know" and I am very anxious to start looking at each of their individual scores and begin planning for them. NWEA scores and information will be reviewed with you at Student Led Conferences in September.
This week your child was asked to complete an interest inventory as part of morning work. This will help me help your child choose books, generate writing topics and just get to know them better overall!

Box Tops:
Don’t forget to SAVE Boxtops! All classrooms have a collection envelope. Please put your child’s name on the baggie of Boxtops! We could win a class party!

Math: We began Guided Math rations in full swing this week. Guided Math is where your child will rotate to different math stations. The teacher will meet with small groups of students. The students will be grouped upon ability and their specific needs. Guided Math helps me make sure that I am meeting the needs of all students. | Fact Fluency: First quarter the math fact fluency goal is mixed addition and subtraction. Your child should be able to correctly complete 48/50 problems in 3 minutes. When your child brings home the fact fluency homework, it would be a great if you could them and then grade the tests! See how they do and encourage them to keep practicing. |
Behavior:
As a class during the first and second weeks, we discussed Leadership Levels and decided as a group what freedoms should be at each level. We have a very sweet, but chatty class! Please remind your child about the expectations to listen when the teacher is talking as this could warrant several Leadership Level changes this coming week! Should your child change their Leadership Level, a note may or may not be written on the back of their Leadership Log. If poor behavior choices continue and become a pattern there will be a "plan of action" to prove they have earned a Leadership Level Up.

Homework: It is your child's responsibility to be showing you what their homework is each night and making sure it gets done. We have talked about taking ownership of things in our life, so I'm this starts to sink in. However, since they are still adjusting to the homework load PLEASE make sure they are bringing it back to school! Last we we had some issues with students not turning their homework in until the end of the day, forgetting it at home, or not doing it all together. | Reading and Math Challenge: Don't forget about the Panther Reading Challenge and Math Challenge. They can use their nightly reading minutes and also put them on the reading log. They should already be doing the reading so why not get rewarded for it. They can also log their fact practice on the Math Challenge sheet. |
